Fix it, and Keep on Fixing It

If the majority of the floors in your house are covered with carpeting, you may want to have the carpets cleaned periodically. Even if you are very careful with your carpeting, it is going to get dirty. People walk on them, dirt gets tracked on them, pets and children may have accidents on them, and just normal day-to-day life can leave your carpets dirty. You may feel up to doing spot cleaning, but cleaning the carpets in several rooms can be time-consuming and something that you don't really want to do. Consider calling a carpet cleaning company. If you are going to do that, there are things you should do first. 

Clear the Floors

One thing that you can do is to clear your floors as much as possible. That means moving smaller pieces of furniture, like ottomans or footstools, as well as lamps. You want to make sure that the cleaners can get to as much of your floor as possible and have as much room to work as possible. Ideally, you want to make sure that the carpet is as bare as possible. 

Vacuum Thoroughly

When you have the room as empty as possible, it's time to vacuum. You want this to be a really thorough job because you want to get as much surface dirt and dust up as possible. If you have pets, you might want to take a stiff broom and sweep up the carpet before you vacuum. That will loosen up pet hair and other debris and bring it up to the surface before you vacuum. You may want to spend a couple of days vacuuming, just to make sure that you have gotten everything possible. 

Move Curtains and Drapes

If you have curtains and drapes that reach the floor, you need to make sure that they are up so that nothing happens to them. One easy way to do that is to just loop the bottoms of the curtains or drapes over the curtain rod so that they are basically folded in half. That will keep them off the floor and out of the way of the people who are cleaning your carpets.
